Coiled by Karen Kirkland for Valerie Miller
The gourd itself was left natural except for the inside and
along the rim on the outside where a chocolate brown dye was applied
and allowed to drip down the side of the gourd. The first fiber in
the coil is kudzu and it is rather freeform, which I imagine is just
like how the stuff grows. It really adds a lot of texture to the
basket. The next 3 rows are Karen's beautiful yucca fiber coiled with
dark brown sinew in a feather stitch. Just gorgeous!
